Police arrested hundreds of people in Pretoria this past weekend for serious crimes and compliance violations.

Hundreds of people were arrested in Pretoria this past weekend for serious crimes and compliance violations.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the police successfully conducted Operation Shanela in Temba and Hammanskraal.
“During the initial phase, Tshwane Detectives arrested 313 suspects for serious offenses, including 100 suspects for gender-based violence, two for murder, three for attempted murder, five for armed robbery, and 11 for rape.”
Van Dyk said furthermore, 36 undocumented individuals were detained, pending legal proceedings.
“Should they be found in violation of immigration laws, deportation procedures will be initiated.”
He added that as part of this large-scale operation, law enforcement officials inspected 1,093 individuals and checked 549 vehicles, with 28 vehicles subjected to thorough verification to determine if they had been reported stolen.
“Additionally, 15 identified premises were searched, leading to the arrest of four individuals for drug-related offenses. Officers seized 153 balls of Nyaope and three shopping bags of dagga from the suspects in question.
“Compliance inspections of 10 liquor establishments were also conducted, resulting in all 10 being shut down due to non-compliance with the Liquor Act. A total of 201 liters of liquor was confiscated.”
